Patricia Riggen to direct Chilean miner drama
Patricia Riggen, director of “Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna),” will slide* behind the camera again to tell the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued after being trapped half a mile below the ground for 69 days in 2010.
The project, currently titled “The 33,” will be produced by film veteran Mike Medavoy (“Black Swan,” “Shutter Island”). Medavoy said Riggen’s work on “Under the Same Moon” convinced him she was the right fit for the story of the real-life heroes of the San Jose mine.
Kanye West nominated for 17 BET Hip-Hop Awards
Kanye West hasn’t released a solo album since 2010, but the rapper has stayed relevant with another strong year with BET.
West received the most nominations* with 17 for the seventh annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, which will air on October 9. The rapper has had a big year as a producer, performer and director. He also collaborated with Jay-Z on the hit album, “Watch the Throne.”
Music mogul Clive Davis to release autobiography
Music mogul Clive Davis will release an autobiography* in February that will include “the excitements, the disappointments and the triumphs” of his career.
The untitled book will be published by Simon & Schuster and will be written with music journalist Anthony DeCurtis. A news release says it will include “never-before-heard tales” about Davis’ work with acts like Whitney Houston, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan.
‘Game of Thrones’ top creative arts Emmy winner
The fantasy series “Game of Thrones” was the big winner on September 15 at the creative arts Emmy Awards.
The HBO saga received a leading six trophies at the ceremony that recognizes technical and other achievements. Best special visual effects and best costumes for a series were among the trophies claimed by “Game of Thrones.”
