Qin Chong’s artworks on display

HE XIANGNING Art Museum is exhibiting 27 paintings, sculptures, videos and installations by contemporary Chinese artist Qin Chong.

The exhibition, with the title “Endless Polarity,” is a comprehensive expression of the artist’s basic attitude towards Eastern and Western art and artistic transformation.

Qin’s art realizes the ability and possibility of free transcendence in a new context. He understands “matter” in traditional Chinese thought, in which power coalesces secretly. He then uses it to give structure to modern and post-modern methods. Within intersections, spaces, and black, white and gray contrasts, the visible and invisible, the real and unreal structures of the works all clearly highlight changes in society. His works also explore the difficulties of life, human bonding, anxiety, and the conflicts and contradiction between traditional and contemporary and East and West.

Born in Xinjiang, Qin studied in Beijing and lived in Germany for years before returning to Beijing. Dubbed a “cultural nomad,” he is known for creating art with elements of both Chinese and Western cultures.

Feng Boyi, curator of the exhibition, said: “Qin is continuously experimenting with arts. Through installations, paintings, sculptures and performances, he shows the beauty of things, expresses his inner self, and reflects upon history and reality.”

Well-known Chinese artist Lu Shengzhong said Qin’s works appeared “very casual” on the surface, but were actually “meticulously put together”.
