The Ningbo government in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province announced yesterday that it’s halting the expansion of a petrochemical plant after waves of public protests driven by pollution concerns.

Ningbo’s government an-nounced online yesterday evening that the expansion will stop immediately and permanently, ending its production of paraxylene (PX), a chemical used in plastic manufacturing that experts say can damage the nervous system.

报道中的halt就是“停止”，相当于stop，这个词可作动词也可作名词。例如：
