‘Ralph’ tops box office
The weekend box office was not only undeterred by the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, it was buoyed by it.
Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph” opened strongly with US$49.1 million and Robert Zemeckis’ “Flight,” starring Denzel Washington, soared to a US$25 million debut. Both opened above expectations, capitalizing on East Coast audiences looking for distraction amid the recovery from the storm.
Heidi Klum to make EMA

Supermodel Heidi Klum promises to bring a “super-sexy” feel to the 2012 MTV European Music Awards when she hosts the show in Germany on November 11.
The “Project Runway” star says she will be dressed head-to-toe in Versace for the event in Frankfurt, but she may need a last-minute costume fitting as she reacquaints herself with the local cuisine.
Robert Poulton killed in car crash
Robert Poulton, a baritone with the Glyndebourne Opera, has been killed in a car crash in Sussex, England.
The singer had been due on stage at the Theater Royal in Norwich on October 31 in Dvorak’s “Rusalka” as part of the company’s 2012 tour.
Glyndebourne said the performance had been canceled out of respect to the singer’s family and colleagues.
Swift’s ‘Red’ sells 1.2 million
copies on debut
Taylor Swift’s new album is called “Red,” but its true color is a brilliant platinum. The 22-year-old sold 1.2 million copies of her latest album in its first week — the largest sales week for any album in a decade.
