Bowie releases new song
British singer David Bowie released his first new song in nearly a decade on January 8 in a surprise launch. The day was also his 66th birthday.
“Where Are We Now?” was produced by his long-term collaborator Tony Visconti. It is a melancholic look back to the time Bowie spent in Berlin in the 1970s.
The song, available on iTunes and free to view on his re-launched website, was recorded in New York and will be followed by Bowie’s first studio album “The Next Day” since 2003.
‘The Twilight’ the ‘worst film’
The final installment of vampire saga “Twilight” on January 9 dominated Razzie nominations for the worst films and movie performances of 2012, despite taking an impressive US$814 million at the global box office.
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2” picked up 11 nominations at the Razzies, created in 1980 as an antidote* to what organizers see as the backslapping lovefest of Hollywood’s awards season culminating with the Oscars in late February.
‘Hunger Games’: people’s choice
Action film “The Hunger Games” was the big winner at the People’s Choice Awards on January 10. It picked up five awards including favorite movie of the year, while singer Katy Perry again led in the music categories.
“The Hunger Games,” based on the trilogy* of novels by Suzanne Collins, beat out “The Avengers,” “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” for the favorite movie accolade*.
About 475 million fans voted through the People’s Choice website.
