The China Children’s Art Theater will bring children’s classic “Aesop’s Fables” to the stage at Shenzhen Poly Theater on Jan. 26 and 27.
Aesop was a Greek storyteller and “Aesop’s Fables” is a collection of tales with morals. Aesop was said to have been a slave in ancient Greece. He was a keen observer of both animals and people. Most of the characters in his stories are animals, some of which take on human characteristics.
However, the majority of his characters retain their animalistic qualities. Aesop uses these qualities and natural tendencies to focus on human traits.
The Shenzhen play combines several of the fables and remakes them into a new full-length narrative. The classic short stories include “The Farmer and the Snake,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “Sour Grapes” and “The Fox and the Crow.”
Founded in 1958, the China Children’s Art Theater is a leading art troupe for children’s plays. It has won many domestic and international awards and toured in countries such as Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Australia.
