TAIWANESE singer Pan An-pang died Sunday of kidney cancer at age 52. Pan was known on the Chinese mainland for singing his most memorable song “Grandma’s Penghu Bay” at China Central Television’s Spring Festival Gala in 1989.
Pan, born in Penghu Island in Taiwan, began his singing career in 1979 and saw his career peak in his late 20s. He was remembered as one of the representatives of Taiwan folk songs in the 1980s. His other well-known songs include “Country Road,” “Sunshine and Rain” and “Errant Love.” He is survived by his wife and son.
