湿湿碎
     2013-February-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    shīshīsuì

    Meaning:

“湿” means “wet,” and “碎” is “scrap.” There is the Cantonese-dialect saying “世事无绝对,万事湿湿碎,” which is translated as “There are no absolutely good or bad things in this world, and in the end you will find things not so important as you thought.” Like scraps or things that are wet and no longer valued, the term means “not a big deal.” As Chinese netizens like to take in words from dialects to spice up their language, “湿湿碎” is widely accepted.

    Example:

    A: 今天我女朋友从家乡回来,有没有空陪我去机场接她?

Jīntiān wǒ nǚpéngyou cóng jiāxiāng huílai, yǒuméiyǒu kòng péi wǒ qù jīchǎng jiē tā?

My girlfriend will return from her hometown today. Do you have time to come with me and meet her at the airport?

    B: 为什么叫我啊,你自己去不是更浪漫?

Wèi shénme jiào wǒ a, nǐ zìjǐ qù búshì gèng làngmàn?

Why ask? Isn’t it more romantic for you to be there alone?

    A: 可是我没车呀。

    Kěshì wǒ méi chē ya。

    But I don’t have a car.

    B: 哦,找我当司机啊。

O, zhǎo wǒ dāng sījī a。

So you want me to be the driver.

    A: 你要是忙就算了。

Nǐ yàoshi máng jìu suàn le。

Don’t bother if you are busy.

    B: 没问题,湿湿碎啦。

    Méi wèntí, shīshīsuì la。

No problem. It’s not a big deal.
