— Cheung’s manager says
THE manager of the late Hong Kong star Leslie Cheung [Cheung Kwok-wing] has announced she will reveal his final message at an upcoming tribute concert March 31.
Florence Chan said she has kept the message since the superstar’s tragic death a decade ago.
She said that it isn’t his last words but something about himself, which he wanted to tell everyone.
Chan said that she’s kept it secret this whole time, even from Cheung’s partner Daffy Tong, and that this is the perfect opportunity.
But Hong Kong media reports have slammed Chan’s announcement as being a publicity stunt to drum up hype around the tribute concert.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Cheung.
Nearly 20 popular songs by Cheung, including his first hits — “Monica,” “Red,” and “Silence is Golden,” will be performed by musicians including clarinet player Wang Tao, cellist Zhu Mu, pianist Chen Xinruo and guzheng player Su Chang.
Actor Yu Shaoqun, who starred in the remake version of 1987’s hit movie, “A Chinese Ghost Story,” in which Cheung played the leading role, will act as the storyteller in the concert, introducing the star’s life story to audiences.
