现充
     2013-April-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

“现” is short for “现实生活,” which means “reality,” and “充” is short for “充实,” which means “substantial.” It refers to those who lead a substantial and satisfactory real life, in contrast to those who love to stay home and find satisfaction in games and virtual life. This saying, borrowed from the Japanese, is used by trendy Chinese netizens. It can be roughly translated as “winners.” Netizens don’t really like them and may feel jealous.

    Example:

    A: 你哥哥可真够顺利的。

Nǐ gēge kě zhēn gòu shùnlì de。

You elder brother has a smooth life.

    B: 是啊,他名牌大学毕业后找到高薪工作,性格外向又很多朋友。

Shì a, tā míngpái dàxué bìyè hòu zhǎodào gāoxīn gōngzuò, xìnggé wàixiàng yǒu hěnduō péngyǒu。

Yes, he does. He found a well-paid job after graduating from a prestigious university. He has many friends as he is an extrovert.

    A: 而且很多女孩喜欢他。

    Erqiě hěnduō nǚhái xǐhuan tā。

    Many girls like him too.

    B: 他是受女孩欢迎。

    Tā shì shòu nǚhái huānyíng。

It’s true that he is popular with girls.

    A: 他就是吊丝们羡慕嫉妒恨的现充啊。

Tā jìushì diàosī men xiànmù jìdù hèn de xiànchōng a。

He is the kind of winner that a nobody would definitely feel jealous of.
