HONG KONG megastar Eason Chan and mainland singer Zhang Liangying won the best male and female singer awards, respectively, at the 13th Top Chinese Music Awards Ceremony at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center on Sunday.
The ceremony awarded prizes in musical categories including pop, rock, ballad, dance and electronic, along with comprehensive arts awards, public voting results and more.
Zhang was named the year’s best female singer for her 2012 album “Live,” and also was named the public’s favorite female singer.
“The audience is the best driver of a singer’s progress and I hope I can make continuous improvements while I am in the prime of my music career,” she said.
Zhang Xuanrong was named the best singer-songwriter.
The duo Yu Quan was named the year’s most influential band. Shang Wenjie won a best album award for her “Ode to the Doom.”
The ceremony had a theme of “We are Young” and gave special nods to young singers and new music.
Han Geng opened the ceremony with a dazzling performance and received five awards, including best dance music singer, best album production and favorite male singer. It was Han’s third consecutive year winning the favorite male singer award.
“The awards are recognitions of the effort of my teammates and I. I will continue to create better music with my own style,” Han said.
The ceremony also showcased the music of celebrities such as Huang Qishan, who’s renowned for her outstanding performance in the music competition “I’m a Singer,” Jin Zhiwen and Ding Ding on the music talent show “Voice of China.”
The music event was established in 2001 as a main event of the Chinese-language music industry, and is known as the Chinese Grammys. Awards are given to artists from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. (Anna Zhao)
