Suspended coffee
     2013-April-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    爱心咖啡

    Suspend是“推迟、暂停”,coffee是“咖啡”。Suspended coffee是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: What would you like to have, Cam?

B: I’d like a cup of mocha coffee for myself and another cup of suspended coffee.

A: Suspended coffee? I don’t quite get it.

B: This is translation from Italian “a caffe sospeso” that refers to a cup of coffee paid for in advance as an anonymous act of charity. The tradition began in the working-class cafes of Naples, where someone who had experienced good luck would order a sospeso, paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one. A poor person enquiring later whether there was a sospeso available would then be served a coffee for free.

A: That was a nice tradition!

B: Indeed. Some people claim the tradition is over 100 years old, but it became less common during the postwar economic boom. A 2008 report helped revive the tradition in Italy as well as in other European countries.

    记住了吗?Suspended coffee就是“爱心咖啡”。
