Pitt praises Jolie after mastectomy
Brad Pitt on May 14 praised his fiancee Angelina Jolie as “absolutely heroic” after the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she has had a double mastectomy* to reduce her high risk of breast cancer.
Pitt, 49, told London’s Evening Standard newspaper: “Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic.”
Aguilera to return to ‘The Voice’
U.S. pop singer Christina Aguilera is in discussions to return as a judge on NBC television singing competition “The Voice” next season, a source said on May 14.
Aguilera, 32, went on hiatus* from the program this season to promote her latest album, “Lotus,” with a concert tour. The singer had been a judge on the first three seasons of the program, which debuted in 2011.
The sources said the former Disney child star would earn about US$12 million to serve as a judge.
Chinese films screen at Cannes
Three Chinese movies are screening in different categories of the 66th Cannes Film Festival in France, which began on May 15.
Jia Zhangke’s “A Touch of Sin” is the first mainland entry to compete for the Palme d’Or, the top prize at Cannes, in three years. The two other Chinese filmmakers are Johnnie To with his thriller “Blind Detective,” which is being shown out of competition at midnight, and first-time director Flora Lau with “Bends,” which is in the A Certain Regard category. Both are from Hong Kong.
Tang, Wang reunite in new thriller
U.S. director Michael Mann’s new untitled thriller* has added two stars: Tang Wei and Wang Leehom.
Written by Mann with Morgan David Foehl, the thriller marks the first Mann film since 2000’s “Public Enemies” and focuses on cyber theft and cyber attacks.
Although the plot has not been released, it is known that Tang and Wang will play a brother-and-sister duo. Tang will play Australian actor Chris Hemsworht’s love interest. Academy Award nominee Viola Davis is also part of the cast.(SD-Agencies)
