Zhang Yimou joins Le Vision
Famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou has signed with entertainment company Le Vision Pictures, becoming its film and art director.
The news was announced by Zhang Zhao, CEO of Le Vision, in Beijing on May 28. The two will seek further collaborations in media production and the education of young directors.
“Signing a contract with Le Vision means that I finally end the unorganized and irregular cooperation mode of the past and start a new professional and normative cooperation mode,” Zhang Yimou said.
Jay Chou’s movie to be released
“The Rooftop,” the second movie directed by Taiwan pop singer Jay Chou, will be the closing movie of the 12th New York Asian Film Festival, to be held from June 28 to July 15.
The movie will be released in Chinese theaters in July.
Shot on location in Taiwan, Beijing and Shanghai, the movie is a romance that combines elements of martial arts and musicals. The film stars Chou along with mainland newcomer Li Xin’ai, veteran* Eric Tsang and Wang Xueqi in a story set in a fantasy world comprised of two distinctly contrasting communities and lifestyles.
Fan Bingbing’s movie to screen
Chinese romantic comedy “Surprise in One Night” starring domestic actress Fan Bingbing will hit Chinese screens on August 13, which is Chinese Valentine’s Day according to the Chinese lunar calendar.
The film tells the story of a fashionable advertising manager played by Fan finding her Mr. Right. Hong Kong actor Aarif Rahman (also known as Aarif Lee) and U.S. model Daniel Henney star as Fan’s romantic interests.
Beyonce funds gender equality
U.S. singer Beyonce performed a set full of female anthems* on June 1 at a London concert to raise funds for women’s health, education and justice.
The concert, which organizers hoped would reach a billion viewers, was staged by Chime For Change, a charity started by Italian fashion house Gucci, which crowdfunds donations for projects to advance gender equality in more than 70 countries.(SD-Agencies)
