Geak launches smart ring, watch
     2013-June-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    果壳电子发布智能手机、手表和魔戒四款产品

Chinese company Geak debuted two smartphones and two other surprising new products on Monday.

The two bits of wearable tech are the Geak Watch and the Geak Ring. The Geak Ring works with the company’s two new smartphones, Geak Mars and Geak Eye.

The Geak Ring has a claimed stand-by* battery life of 99 years. It can be used to securely unlock your Geak phone, to bump your contact details to someone with the same device and to keep your device awake when you’re holding your Geak phone close to the ring.

The Geak Watch is an Android-based* device with Bluetooth and WiFi support that serves as an accessory to your phone to show information like current weather and notifications, and also serves as a fitness-tracking gadget.

Geak’s two phones will also be Android-based, using the startup’s own Geak operating system. Geak Mars is a flagship phone that has a 5.8-inch, 1080p HD screen and is powered by a quad-core* processor*. Geak Eye is the more affordable of the pair, and still has quad-core and a 5-inch screen.

Geak Watch will be available on July 3 for 1,999 yuan (US$325), Geak Ring goes on sale on August 8 for 199 yuan and Geak Mars sells from June 25 for 2,999 yuan. Geak Eye will be available on June 25 for 1,999 yuan. Those prices are several hundred yuan less than prices for flagship phones from Apple, Samsung or HTC.

Geak is a subsidiary* of Shanda, one of China’s largest software, hardware and gaming companies. Shanda has made an e-reader, Bambook, for years. Geak has the same pronunciation as “geek*.”(SD-Agencies)
