‘The Voice of China’ unveils new coaches
     2013-June-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    《中国好声音》第二季导师名单出炉

The popular Chinese singing contest “The Voice of China” unveiled the four coaches for the TV show’s second season on Monday.

In addition to Na Ying and Harlem Yu, the two coaches for the first season, the two new coaches are Wang Feng, a popular rock singer on the mainland, and A Mei, a popular singer from Taiwan, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.

Lu Wei, the show’s publicity director, said salaries for the coaches were the same as the salaries for the first season, but did not reveal the actual salary for each coach.

“We did not intend to have two male and two female coaches. We targeted having two super singers and one popular singer with character. The last coach should be a singer who’s very popular among grass-roots groups. Last year, that was Yang Kun, and this year it will be Wang,” Lu said.

The four coaches will sing together for the first time at a “The Voice of China” concert in Guangzhou on June 21. The first episode of the show is scheduled to air on July 12.

At a press conference held in Shanghai on Monday, Na suggested singers be careful when choosing her because her “student,” Liang Bo, won the championship in the first season.

Wang, who helped Na in the contest as a “dream coach” last year, said he hoped to find the best voice of China through the contest.

A Mei has made efforts to lose weight for the show, while Yu said he would continue looking for voices with special character this year. Yu’s “student” in the first season, Wu Mochou, was runner-up in the contest and now is the most popular “The Voice of China” singer because of her special style and unique voice.

Hosted by Zhejiang Satellite TV, the show is part of “The Voice” franchise and is based on a Dutch program, “The Voice of Holland.”

The first season premiered on July 13, 2012, and featured four famous singers as coaches: Yang Kun, Na Ying, Liu Huan and Harlem Yu. The winner was Liang, a 21-year-old man from Jilin Province.
