After two years as a runner-up, Oprah Winfrey was named the most powerful celebrity on June 26 by Forbes, heading the six women and four men who make up the top 10.

It was the fifth time the former talk show host who runs her own TV network has headed the annual ranking of 100 celebrities.

Singer Lady Gaga came in second, followed by director/producer Steven Spielberg and singers Beyonce and Madonna.

    Money-loving movie opens big

The film adaptation of Chinese author and teen idol Guo Jingming’s best-selling novel series, “Tiny Times,” was released on June 27, with nearly every theater in the country offering major screens for it.

The movie has received huge attention from youngsters for its A-list cast and extravagant settings and costumes, as well as Guo’s idol impact.

The “Tiny Times” trilogy*, which has sold more than 3 million copies on the mainland since its first publication in 2008, chronicles the struggles of four rich girls with very different personalities living in cosmopolitan Shanghai.

‘Lady in the Portrait’ starts shooting

Chinese-French co-production “Lady in the Portrait,” starring Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, has begun filming at Chengde Summer Resort in Hebei Province.

The movie is directed by French director Charles De Meaux and set in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Beijing. It centers on feuding among imperial people.

Photos of Fan in costume have been released, drawing comparisons to Fan’s role from 16 years ago in the Chinese drama series “Princess Pearl,” which was filmed at the same location.

    Avril and Chad Kroeger married

Canadian rockers Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have tied the knot, several media outlets reported on Sunday.

The couple wed on Saturday at a ceremony in Cannes, France, The Hollywood Reporter said on its website. The ceremony has been described as “intimate.” Lavigne wore a custom-made wedding dress by Australian designer Johanna Johnson, and the couple had their first dance to a song they wrote together, which they now plan on releasing as a single, according to Us Weekly.
