职胖族
zhípàngzù
Meaning: "职" means "job" or "profession," "胖" means "overweight" or "obese," and "族" refers to a group of people sharing similar traits. A recent survey published in the Daily Mail has found that obesity has links to a person's job. High-risk professions include executive assistants, engineers, teachers and nurses. According to the survey, most people think they grow fat because of long-hour desk work and stress from work, which they try to relieve by lots of snacking. Chinese netizens have readily accepted the term.
Example:
A: 你毕业以后想干什么?
Nǐ bìyè yǐhòu xiǎng gàn shénme?
What job are you thinking of after graduation?
B: 我想做个导游。
Wǒ xiǎng zuò ge dǎoyóu。
I want to be a tour guide.
A: 在外奔波会很辛苦。
Zài wài bēnbō huì hěn xīnkǔ。
It will be exhausting as you have to run from place to place all the time.
B: 我喜欢在外旅游,也喜欢与人交流,而且,导游不会让我变成职胖族。
Wǒ xǐhuān zài wài lǚyóu, yě xǐhuān yǔ rén jiāolíu,érqiě, dǎoyóu bù huì ràng wǒ biànchéng zhípàngzù。
I enjoy traveling, and I enjoy meeting people. One more thing: working as a tour guide I will never become a victim of job-related obesity.
