WHILST Chinese audiences complain of being surrounded by commercials in daily life, many visitors are lured to appreciate the design of these works in the OCT Art & Design Gallery, which showcases art ranging from advertisements to print media, illustrations, graphics and book designs.

Over 300 art works currently exhibited in the gallery are winners of the 91st ADC&YGX Annual Awards presented by New York Art Directors Club, which is a globally recognized organization of top creative talents.

“Art is not only confined to works of sculptures, paintings but also includes photography and fashion. In the advertising industry, every piece of work should be regarded as an art work, as long as they are beautiful things,” said Ignacio Oreamuno, executive director of ADC, at the forum titled “The Mode Transform of Creating the Creativity.” Several ADC award winners were also invited to give speeches on this topic.

The exhibition includes several award-winning works by Chinese designers.

A print advertisement titled “Heaven and Hell” is one of the gold award-winning works by JWT Shanghai, which tries to tell consumers how firm the client’s brand of luggage case is by depicting the scenes of heaven and hell.

“When we are enjoying heavenly service on plane, we have no idea what kind of torture our luggage case is going through. The advantage of the product is perfectly embodied by using relievo to depict the epic scene,” explained Elvis Chau, former creative officer of JWT.

Besides those art works, the gallery will also exhibit yearbooks, posters and some photos about the history of the ADC.
