This is the second film adapted* from author Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson & The Olympians” series.
The first film in the series saw Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), son of a human woman and Poseidon*, adjusting to* life at Camp Half-Blood, making new friends, and clearing his name* after a trip to Hades*. This film sees Percy questioning his abilities and wondering about his place in the world.
While Percy is still a hero around Camp Half-Blood for returning Zeus’ own lightning bolt in the previous film, he’s worried that he’s just a “one-quest wonder” who will never live up to* his name or potential*.
Besides, Clarisse (Leven Rambin), daughter of Ares, is kicking his butt* when it comes to in-camp challenges. And his own father won’t speak to him.
When the magical tree that protects the camp falls mysteriously ill, bringing down the barrier* that keeps the sons and daughters of Greek gods and goddesses safe from predators*, Percy’s friend Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) cooks up a plan to find the one thing in the world that can heal anything. This mythical golden fleece* is located in what humans believe to be the Bermuda Triangle and which the gods call the Sea of Monsters.
Unfortunately, the camp’s director (Stanley Tucci) decides to send Clarisse and her team on this task, leaving Percy, Annabeth, satyr friend Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and Percy’s newly found Cyclops half-brother, Tyson (Douglas Smith), with no choice but to head out on their own.
More action-packed than the first film, this one may have benefited from lots of well-designed sequences of peril*. The film is not epic*, however, because everything in the film feels just like it’s a movie set.
What “Percy Jackson” does have is a sweet and goofy* sense of humor, which is sure to trigger laughters from every member of the audience.(SD-Agencies)
