Chinese “diving queen” Guo Jingjing gave birth to a healthy baby boy yesterday, her husband announced on his microblog.
Kenneth Fok, Guo’s husband and eldest grandson of the late Hong Kong business tycoon Henry Fok, wrote on his Sina blog, “Dear friends, my and Jingjing’s son was born this morning; he weighs 3.3 kilograms. Mother and son are safe and healthy.”
He added, “Our families are very happy and joyful about this little miracle of life.” Fok also thanked the doctors and nurses, as well as other relatives, friends and media reporters, indicating he will release a photo of the baby later.
Multi-Olympic gold winner Guo tied the knot with Fok in Hong Kong in November 2012, during three lavish* wedding ceremonies. The events were attended by numerous officials and celebrities from the political, athletic and business worlds. It was called the “Wedding of the Century.”
In April this year, Hong Kong media first reported about Guo’s pregnancy*, which was later confirmed by both families. In June, there were reports the Fok family had given the couple a HK$200-million (US$25.8 million) house near the Fok compound as a place for them to reside and raise their child.
Guo retired in 2011 after bagging* a total of four Olympic gold medals and eight world titles. Her romance and marriage with Fok has kept her in headlines since the 2004 Athens Olympics.(SD-Agencies)
