    Katy Perry tops British

    singles chart

American singer Katy Perry has tallied her fourth U.K. number one with new track “Roar,” ending Ellie Goulding’s three-week reign* with “Burn.”

“Roar” sold 179,500 copies over the past seven days, becoming the United Kindom’s third-fastest selling single of the year so far, the Official Charts Company said.

“Roar” became Perry’s eighth U.S. No. 1, overtaking Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” which dominated the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 this summer.

Jennifer Aniston fends off rapist in new movie

Coming off the box office success of comedy “We’re the Millers” in which she played a stripper*-turned-housewife, Jennifer Aniston continues to make riskier choices in Daniel Schetcher’s “Life of Crime” — in which she fends off a would-be rapist. The flick* will be the Toronto International Film Festival’s Closing Night event on Saturday.

Based on the novel “Switch” by the late Elmore Leonard (“Justified,” “Get Shorty”), the movie serves as a prequel to “Jackie Brown,” which was adapted for the screen by Quentin Tarantino in 1997.

‘Sacro GRA’ wins Venice Golden Lion

Unheralded “Sacro GRA,” a documentary about life on the ring road circling Italy’s capital and directed by Venice regular Gianfranco Rosi, won the Venice Film Festival’s prestigious Golden Lion award on Saturday.

The film, which was not considered a front-runner for the festival’s main prize, is the first documentary to ever win the Golden Lion and the first Italian film to win it in 15 years.

“Sacro GRA” is just the fourth film — all documentaries — the 56-year-old Rosi has made, and three of them premiered on the Lido and took home prizes.

Bruno Mars to sing at Super Bowl halftime

Bruno Mars, the 26-year-old R&B singer who gained fame in 2010 and won a Grammy for his singing that year on “Just the Way You Are,” is expected to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show next year, his manager said on Saturday.

The singer is set to be named as a performer in the coveted* halftime spot during Super Bowl XLVIII next year in East Rutherford, New Jersey, his manager John Marx said.(SD-Agencies)
