Faye Wong announces her divorce
     2013-September-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SINGER Faye Wong an-nounced Friday that she had divorced her second husband, former actor-turned-businessman, Li Yapeng.

They had been married for eight years.

Fans reposted her Sina Weibo announcement more than 100,000 times in the first hour.

The post read: “Our destiny as husband and wife ends here. I’m well. You take care, too.” The 44-year-old pop diva also attached a smiling emoticon.

Li later confirmed the news on his microblog, posting: “I wanted a family, but you are a legend. I miss the good days we spent together over the past 10 years.”

The 41-year-old also said their daughter Li Yan will live with him, and there are no disputes over property issues because they have remained financially independent since they wed.

Li also said: “I still love you like I did before. Letting go is the only thing I can do for you now. I hope you are happy.”

The posts received 200,000 comments and more than 700,000 reposts.

Wong divorced her first husband Dou Wei in late 1999, with Wong claiming the rights to their daughter and waiving child support.

Wong fell in love with Dou, a Beijing rocker of the band “Black Panther” who was much more famous on the mainland, in 1995. The couple married a year later and their daughter Dou Jingtong was born in 1997.

Wong began dating Li Yapeng in 2004 in Beijing. Their wedding took place in July 2005. Around the time of her wedding, her manager confirmed that she might take an indefinite break from the entertainment business. Their daughter was born in May 2006. In January 2011, appearing for the first time with her husband on a talk show, Wong told host Yang Lan that the past five years of her married life had been “very steady, very satisfying.”

Many Chinese netizens have expressed surprise about the news, but Wong’s good friend Carina Lau said the couple had been planning divorce for some time.

Gossips say that Wong had been too busy to take care of her family. Some guessed Wong was unhappy with Li’s hobby of partying in night clubs. Others say Li’s tense relationship with Wong’s daughter from her first marriage and Wong’s tense relationship with Li’s mother partly led to their divorce.

Meanwhile, Chinese singer Wang Feng also confirmed his divorce on his microblog Friday. (SD-Agencies)
