《绿山墙的安妮》
Lucy Maud Montgomery’s book is a classic in children’s literature, and with its timeless* story and lovely characters, a novel for anyone.
First published over 100 years ago, it is well known in Canadian literature, and is an evergreen in children’s fiction. You can find the book in many bookstores, although 1908 first editions sell at auctions* for thousands of dollars.
Set in Prince Edward Island, it is a story of a young orphan girl named Anne Shirley. After a hard time in foster* homes and orphanages, she finds herself in the home of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert by mistake.
Although she was sent by mistake, Anne becomes the loved child to Marilla and Matthew. Then we read the adventures* and mishaps* of her coming of age*.
Anne grows up and meets characters like busybody Mrs. Lynde, Gilbert Blythe, Anne’s scholarly rival*, and Diana Barry, Anne’s best friend.
Anne is a little hot-tempered, but she has a simple sweetness.
Although the story is set in a time period long ago, it has qualities to which readers can still relate: Anne’s dislike of her own hair color, her worries over not living up to expectations*, rivalry between classmates and the ambitions* to do better than them.
It is a story that can make a reader believe in kindred spirits*, the power of friendship, and the love of family.(SD-Agencies)
