Song of the Week

    Wake Me Up!

    Artist: Avicii

Feeling my way through the darkness

    Guided by a beating heart

I can’t tell where the journey will end

But I know where it starts

They tell me I’m too young to understand

They say I’m caught up in a dream

My life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes

    Well that’s fine by me

So wake me up when it’s all over

When I’m wiser and I’m older

All this time I was finding myself

    And I didn’t know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world

But I only have two hands

I hope I get the chance to travel the world

And I don’t have any plans

I wish that I could stay forever this young

Not afraid to close my eyes

Life’s a game made for everyone

    And love is a prize

So wake me up when it’s all over

When I’m wiser and I’m older

All this time I was finding myself

    And I didn’t know I was lost

    I didn’t know I was lost

    I didn’t know I was lost

    I didn’t know I was lost

    I didn’t know I was lost

    Background

As chart-friendly electronic dance music continues to reach the furthest corners of the world, staying ahead of the pack can be a difficult task. Many acts are just mixes with identikit build-ups, tired lyrics and uninspired breakdowns. Kudos to Swedish DJ and music producer Avicii, who has dared to try something different.

This song features American soul singer Aloe Blacc singing over dialed-up, country-flecked guitar strums that sound like Mumford & Sons on speed.
