In the first film, inventor Flint Lockwood’s machine rained down food on the island of Swallow Falls and made the people in the town very happy, until it turned the island into a food-ridden disaster*. The new movie continues the story, and we find that all the people had to leave the island so famous inventor Chester V and his team could clean up the mess. Chester, Lockwood’s hero since childhood, invites Lockwood to join his Live Corp Company.
However, Chester’s team runs into some trouble with the clean-up of Swallow Falls. It seems Lockwood’s invention somehow developed by itself and has been creating food-animal hybrids*. The foodimals have taken over* the island, and eaten some of the members of Chester’s team.
Chester sends Lockwood on a dangerous job to stop the machine before the foodimals find out how to cross the water and take over the world. Along with his friends, including weather girl Sam Sparks, and his father, Lockwood sets off to fight strange creatures* to save humanity*. But, are the foodimals really the enemy? Lockwood and his friends may be walking into a trap.
The film is colorful with adventure*, but the story is not very satisfying. Children over 4 years old won’t be too afraid of a cheeseburger* spider*, no matter how many eyes it has.
However, the characters do find themselves in several dangerous situations that could make young children nervous*. Several scenes show the main characters running for their lives*, though everything turns out fine in the end.
If the first film represented a worst-case scenario* of what can happen when humans toy with* nature, this one says that the society shouldn’t be too quick to judge* genetic engineering*, shown here as a noble form of creativity. (SD-Agencies)
