Gravity
     2013-October-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    3D科幻大片《地心引力》

The film directed by Alfonso Cuaron stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. It isn’t an average sci-fi thriller*. It’s a rare* good film about the mysteries* of human feelings and space. It is skillfully made to give an intense* watching experience.

The themes*, including death and sadness, will touch young and old, although younger children may be frightened by some scenes.

Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a medical engineer on her first trip to outer space. But during the final spacewalk on the day before she and the rest of the crew* are set to return to Earth, the Russians shoot down one of their own satellites. The explosion causes a terrible debris shower* that threatens* to destroy all space stations. Stone’s shuttle is destroyed, leaving her and experienced astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) completely alone — tied to nothing but each other and falling into the darkness.

With Kowalsky by her side, Stone struggles to survive — not just the accident that threatens her and other people’s lives, but her own personal problems as well.

A meditation* on tragedy* and the human spirit, “Gravity” is driven by both stunning* cinematography and Bullock’s artful performance.

A skillful storyteller, Cuaron explores isolation*, physical and emotional. Early on, when Kowalski asks Stone what she likes best about space, she answers: “The silence.” It’s a thought that will come back to trouble her.

The soundtrack serves the film well without overshadowing it. The 3-D effects artfully enhance* this movie, one with great imagination, attractive narrative, and true soul.
