The Observatory, an indie space rock and electronica band from Singapore, will perform at Brown Sugar Jar in Futian District next week.
Consisting largely of alumni from significant 1990s Singaporean bands, The Observatory formed in 2001, has released four albums and is influential in the Singaporean music scene. The band uses electronic effects extensively, utilizing several laptops during their tours throughout different European and Asian countries such as Norway, Japan, Thailand and Singapore.
The band members are Leslie Low (lead vocals, guitar), Vivian Wang (vocals, piano, percussion, keyboards), Dharma (guitar) and Victor Low (guitar, percussion).
Leslie Low is a music composer and sound designer by profession and graduated from the School of Film and Media Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a diploma in film, sound and video. Wang is a former TV presenter of the arts program “Artitude” on local channel TV12 and also a host of Cathay Pacific’s in-flight series “World of Travel.” Dharma is a Nanyang Technological University engineering graduate and currently a mechanical engineer at Epson. Victor Low is an economics graduate of Boston University.
