Meaning:

    “倒” means “in reverse,” and “逼” means to “force.” This term is originally jargon used in explaining China’s monetary policy, where the need for bank loans by State-owned companies has forced commercial banks and finally the Central Bank to increase money supply. Used in more general circumstances where subordinates force their bosses to take actions or a random incident triggers a more fundamental change, this term was chosen as a buzz phrase of the year by Chinese magazine “Yaowen Jiaozi” (“chew on essays and characters”).

    Example:

    A:太可怕了！山东一男子收快递中毒身亡。

    Tài kěpà le! Shāndōng yī nánzǐ shōu kuàidì zhòngdú shēnwáng。

    This is horrible! A man in Shandong Province died after he received an express-delivery item.

    B: 是有人投毒？

    Shì yǒurén tóudú?

    Did somebody poison him?

    A: 不是，是快递处理过程中化学品泄漏，污染了他网购的货品。

    Bùshì, shì kuàidì chǔlǐ guòchéng zhōng huàxuépǐn xièlòu, wūrǎn le tā wǎnggòu de huòpǐn。
