    腐女

    fǔnǚ

Meaning: "腐" means "rotten" or "decadent," and "女" means "woman." Originating from Japanese, "腐女" refers to women who like to fancy boys' love, either in their idols or in the characters of literary works. This term, widely used by Chinese netizens, was cited by BBC News in their recent report on the response of Chinese fans to the popular TV show "Sherlock." The report was headlined "Gay love theory as fans relish Sherlock in China."

    Example:

    A: 《神探夏洛克》基情回归了!

    Shéntàn xiàluòkè jīqíng huíguī le!

    Gay-citement is back with "Sherlock!"

    B: 你也是个腐女啊。

Nǐ yě shì gè fǔnǚ a。

So you are one of the rotten women.

    A: 花生看卷福的眼神那不是爱情是什么呢?

Huāshēng kàn juǎnfú de yǎnshén nà bùshì àiqíng shì shénme ne?

Isn't there love in the eyes of Watson when he looks at Sherlock?

    B: 好吧。

    Hǎo ba。

    OK.

    A: 卷虐花生千百遍,花生待卷如初恋!

Juǎn nüè huāshēng qiānbǎi biàn, huāshēng dài juǎn rú chūliàn!

Sherlock tortures Watson a thousand times and Watson loves him like his first love!

Note: Chinese fans give Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock the nickname "Curly Fu." They call Watson "Peanut," as the two sound similar in Chinese.
