guǎnshì fúwù
Meaning:
“莞” here refers to Dongguan, a city near Shenzhen in southern Guangdong Province, “式” means “style,” and “服务” means “service.” The term “Dongguan-style service” is a euphemism for a set of standard-procedure services provided by sex workers to clients in Dongguan. The city, a manufacturing powerhouse full of migrants, has long been famous for its booming underground sex industry and recently became the target of a nationwide anti-vice campaign.
Example:
A: 这个周末我们公司开会,我不回来了。
Zhègè zhōumò wǒmen gōngsī kāihuì, wǒ bù huílái le。
Our company will organize a meeting out of town this weekend, so I’ll not be home.
B: 去哪里?
Qù nǎlǐ?
Where are you heading for?
A: 东莞。
Dōngguǎn。
Dongguan.
B: 去哪里不好?你们不是去享受莞式服务吧?
Qù nǎlǐ bùhǎo? Nǐmen bùshì qù xiǎngshòu guǎnshì fúwù ba?
Why not somewhere else? Are you not going to enjoy some “Dongguan-style service?”
A: 我们就是开会,主要因为东莞酒店住宿便宜。再说,现在不是严打扫黄吗?
Wǒmen jìushì kāihuì, zhǔyào yīnwèi dōngguǎn jǐudiàn zhùsù piányi。Zàishuō, xiànzài bùshì yándǎ sǎohuáng ma?
We are just having a meeting, and choose Dongguan because of the cheap room rates for hotels. And, just a heads up, isn’t there a harsh campaign against prostitution now?
