LOMONOSOV Moscow State University will set up a comprehensive university in Shenzhen, according to an agreement it signed with Shenzhen Municipal Government on Saturday.

    The university will adopt teaching styles of the Moscow university and confer diplomas for both schools.

    Initial fields of study will include science and technology, math and computer science. Classes will be taught in Chinese, Russian and English. Chinese students will have one year of language study and short-term exchanges at Moscow State University. Teachers from the Moscow university will come to Shenzhen to teach, the agreement said.

    Shenzhen’s development and achievements, especially in high-tech fields, were a key factor in the university’s decision to open a campus here, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

    Chinese students must take China’s National College Entrance Examinations. Score thresholds will be jointly decided by the university and China’s Ministry of Education.

    Moscow State University was established in 1755 and is the oldest, largest comprehensive university in Russia, with about 50,000 students enrolled. About 4,000 international students and postgraduates attend the university each year. (Han Ximin)
