Canadian band Ask Your Sister will perform soul, jazz and pop at Brown Sugar Jar in Futian District on Thursday.
Formed by Ariana Flinn, Sahara Jane, Kamila Nasr and Andy Flinn, Ask Your Sister’s music is very charming. Their special singing, performing and dancing often makes audience members from different age groups and background dance together.
Nasr is a singer and composer who is accomplished in a variety of styles and repertoire. She has been performing her music throughout Asia, America and France. She is also known for her work as a solo harpist and her skills backing up other performers on flute, guitar and keyboard.
In July 2007 Nasr moved to Beijing where she became the lead singer for the Samba band Sambasia as well as creating a bossa nova band Girassol and a jazz band Lullaby Fire with whom she regularly performed with in Beijing and at many music festivals and venues across China. In 2012 she released her latest album “Paint the Moon” which is a combination of original and Brazilian music.
Jane has been making music around the world. She sings jazz in Beijing, studies Indian classical music in Bombay and Amsterdam and tours in France and Canada. She has taught classes in Indian music at Acadia University and Ithaca College.
Jane has written and co-produced three full-length albums of original music, two with Nasr and her most recent solo album entitled “Lonesome Sky” which was produced by Andy Flinn.
Ariana is Andy Flinn’s wife. She is a singer, saxophonist and violinist. She regularly performs original music all over Eastern Canada with her husband as the duo Andy and Ariana.
Andy has been recording his own musical projects since the early 1990s. He has produced many CDs for his own band, Andy and Ariana, as well as others like Micah O’Connell and Mike Milne.
