300kg man dies of organ failure
     2014-April-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 300-KILOGRAM man, thought to be the heaviest in China, has died of heart and lung failure, Qilu Evening News reported Monday.

Sun Liang, 22, from Rizhao City in Shandong Province, was hospitalized April 9 to treat an accumulation of fluid.

About 2 p.m. Sunday, Sun’s heart rate dropped dramatically while he slept. Despite emergency treatment, Sun died of heart and lung failure an hour later.

According to Peninsula Metropolis Daily, Sun was born weighing 6.5 kilograms and had learning difficulties.

He dropped out of school at 8 and stayed at home. His life was nothing but eating and sleeping, Sun’s cousin said.

Sun was 150 kilograms when he was 19, and in the next three years his weight soared, reaching 300 kilograms when 22. Sun was barely able to walk after then, his cousin said.

Doctors said his obesity was both genetic and a result of uncontrolled intake of food.

When Sun was hospitalized, Web users donated cash to help him. One person from Shanghai gave 30,000 yuan (US$4,813). (SD-Agencies)
