Song of the Week
     2014-May-7  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Ain’t It Fun

    Artist: Paramore

I don’t mind letting you down easy

    But just give it time

If it don’t hurt now then just wait, just wait a while

You’re not the big fish in the pond no more

You are what they’re feeding on

So what are you gonna do when the world don’t orbit around you?

What are you gonna do when the world don’t orbit around you?

Ain’t it fun living in the real world

Ain’t it good being all alone

    Where you’re from

You might be the one who’s running things

Well, you can ring anybody’s bell to get what you want

You see, it’s easy to ignore a trouble

When you’re living in a bubble

So what are you gonna do when the world don’t orbit around you?

So what are you gonna do when nobody wants to fool with you?

    ...

Ain’t it good to be on your own

Ain’t it fun you can’t count on no one

Don’t go crying to your mama ’cause you’re on your own in the real world

    Ain’t it fun

Baby, now you’re one of us

    Ain’t it fun

    Ain’t it fun

    ...

    Background

This is from Paramore’s 2013 self-titled album. “Ain’t it fun living in the real world/Ain’t it good being all alone?” asks Hayley Williams in the energetic rock-pop wake-up-call tune. The song seems to be directed at spoilt kids who come to realize the world doesn’t revolve around them and that they can’t rely on their parents for everything for their whole life.

The song is very catchy and despite the somewhat serious subject matter it is very positive and cheerful sounding. The song has an experimental sound that is different from the usual Paramore track — combining influences from funk, jazz and pop music, the use of a xylophone mixed with heavy rock guitar riffs and a Gospel choir to produce one of their most creative songs yet.
