CHINESE actress Yang Mi gave birth to her daughter in Hong Kong yesterday. Yang’s husband, Hawick Lau, was with her during the labor.
The baby, weighing around 3 kilos, was nicknamed “Xiao-
nuomi,” referring to the ingredient for zongzi, a special food for the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on today this year.
Lau couldn’t conceal his excitement, as he announced the news on his Weibo account. “Welcome new member to the Lau family! ... Mom and baby are safe! I’m grateful!” he said, also wishing all children a happy Children’s Day.
The baby is likely to stay in Hong Kong, cared for by Lau’s parents.
Yang and Lau, a Hong Kong actor, held a romantic wedding in Bali on Jan. 8, soon after which the couple announced they were expecting a baby.
Yang, born in 1986, gained popularity from her breakthrough role as Luo Qingchuan in TV series “Palace” (2011). Lau, 40, is a Hong Kong actor and singer, most famous for his performances in the TVB series “A Kindred Spirit,” “Virtues of Harmony” and its sequel “Virtues of Harmony II,” and “My Family.” The duo have been dating since 2012.(Debra Li)
