逆生长
     2014-June-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

“逆” means “reverse,” and “生长” means to “grow.” Of course it’s impossible to reverse the natural process of aging. However, many people around us, especially show biz celebrities, look much younger than their age. Therefore, Chinese netizens have coined the term to refer to the bunch who appear so much younger than their age that you may suspect if they had some secret remedies to help them reverse aging. This term is also used as a metaphor for “being rejuvenized,” as some people use it to describe certain industries, like TV manufacturing, that jump on the Internet bandwagon and find new growth points.

    Example:

    A: 还记得我们从前的图书管理员李姐吗?

Hái jìdé wǒmen cóngqián de túshū guǎnlǐyuán lǐjiě ma?

Do you remember our librarian Sister Li?

    B: 记得,她当年可是个美女。

Jìdé, tā dāngnián kě shǐ gè měinǚ。

Sure. She was very beautiful back then.

    A: 我上周出差去北京,在机场遇见她了。她实现了逆生长,这么多年过去了,还年轻漂亮。

Wǒ shàngzhōu chūchāi qù běijīng, zài jīchǎng yùjiàn tā le。Tā shíxiàn le nìshēngzhǎng, zhèmeduō nián guòqù le, hái niánqīng piàoliàng。

I met her last week at the airport when I was on a business trip in Beijing. She seemed to have reversed the process of aging. So many years have passed, and she is still young and beautiful.
