AN upscale wedding company is offering 1 million yuan (US$162,500) a year for a full-time bridesmaid to work at the company’s group weddings, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The well-paid job requires its candidates to be good-looking, single, good at drinking, have a high level of education and overall ability.
The company planned to recruit 100 bridesmaids from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen for a group wedding in Sanya, Hainan Province, in late July. These single ladies can also join the company’s single party, in which 100 groomsmen with prominent backgrounds will participate.
In an interview at an upscale office building in Futian CBD on Sunday, 571 fashionably dressed, beautiful young women tried their luck. “I’m here to take a chance at becoming a professional bridesmaid, but what I actually want is to meet my life partner through the occasions this work involves,” said a candidate.
The recruitment process had three steps: psychological evaluation, creative planning and a negotiation in the interview, with questions ranging widely. For example, what do you do when a groom forgets to bring the wedding ring and has no time to fetch it before the ceremony begins?
The company said 10 women would be selected to enter the final round to compete for the position of full-time bridesmaid and chief wedding planner with a yearly salary of 1 million yuan.
