CHINESE singer Yangwei Linghua, half of the duo Phoenix Legend, shared a photo of her newborn baby girl online June 7.
“I become a mother today. ... My baby girl was born in the morning and everything went smoothly. I’m so grateful,” she wrote on her Sina Weibo along with a picture of her daughter.
Yangwei met her husband 10 years ago, and they were married in March 2011.
Yangwei, 33, was born in Inner Mongolia. She came to Shenzhen seeking a new life in 1997. She sang at a local dance club and eventually made her musical debut with her now partner Zen Yi and the now famous male Chinese singer Zhang Jie.
With help from music producer He Muyang, Phoenix Legend, made up of Yangwei and Zen, released their single “On the Moon” in 2003.
The duo blends folk music with rap and hip-hop elements and has many fans in China. In May 2012, China Daily reported that Phoenix Legend has sold over 6 million albums in China since 2005. Their song “The Most Dazzling Folk Style” has been downloaded more than 100 million times, which set a record in the Chinese music business.
Xu Mingchao, Yangwei’s husband, was a CEO of the art promotion company that signed the duo and is in charge of its promotion. (Tan Yifan)
