小鲜肉

    Meaning:

    “小” means “little,” “鲜” means “fresh,” and “肉” refers to “meat.” Coined by Chinese netizens, this term refers to a good-looking young male adult, who is nice and kind and has not been through many relationships. To qualify for the address, a young man need to have good skin as well as six-pack abs. Usually, “小鲜肉” is used for young idols in the show biz, similar to the American slang term “hunk,” only this time around the hunk has a pretty face too.

    

    Example:

    A: 你桌面照片里的小鲜肉是谁?

    Nǐ zhuōmiàn zhàopiān lǐ de xiǎoxiānròu shì shuí?

    Who is the handsome hunk in your desktop picture?

    B: 这个你都不认识?他是蒋劲夫。

    Zhègè nǐ dōu bù rènshí? Tā shì jiǎngjìnfū。

    You don’t know him? He is Jiang Jinfu.

    A: 他是演员还是歌手?

    Tā shì yǎnyuán háishì gēshǒu?

    Is he an actor or singer?

    B: 演员,湖南人,九零后,演过电视也演电影。

    Yǎnyuán, húnán rén, jǐulínghòu, yǎn guò diànshì yě yǎn guò diànyǐng。

    He’s an actor from Hunan Province, born in 1991. He has acted in TV shows and movies, too.
