OSCAR-WINNING actress Anne Hathaway may have faced her toughest role yet playing a moustachioed lad in a new music video.
In drag, Hathaway stars alongside actresses Kristen Stewart and Brie Larson, of 21 Jump Street, in the clip for “Just One of the Guys,” an indie-pop single from singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis.
One minute they are in feminine form, barefoot, wearing cream-colored suits as they play backup to Lewis. The next, they are in tracksuits, flat-brimmed hats, wigs and moustaches. The “guys” are by turns coquettish and fierce.
Hathaway has mock-brooding intensity, and even sheds a tear, in between some very bad breakdancing. Stewart larks about while Larson pumps her fists and sings her heart out.
The video has already racked up more than half a million views in its first day of release. Its antics, plus the song’s sweet sing-along chorus, contrast with serious lyrics about aging and fertility.
“No matter how hard I try to be just one of the guys, there’s a little something inside, that won’t let me,” Lewis croons as she holds a pregnancy test.
“The Voyager,” Lewis’s first album in six years, is set for U.S. release July 29.(SD-Agencies)
