RELEASED just a week ago, the trailer for the adaptation of E.L. James’s sultry book has already piqued the curiosity of over 36 million Internet users, allowing it to claim the best opening week of any trailer released in 2014.
The colossal buzz surrounding the three “Fifty Shades” books grew to new proportions with the announcement of a film adaptation. Each step of the production process has grabbed headlines, from casting announcements to release dates. But over the past few days, it’s the trailer for the new movie that has taken the Web by storm.
In spite of being relatively tame considering the subject matter, the first trailer for “Fifty Shades of Grey” has crossed the 36 million views mark on YouTube, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This places the video atop the ranking of 2014 trailers that have scored the most views during the week following their release, ahead of the previous winners “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Godzilla” and “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the U.S. erotic drama centers on the deepening relationship between a literature student (Dakota Johnson) and a young businessman (Jamie Dornan). It is notable for its explicitly erotic scenes. “Fifty Shades of Grey” will be released Feb. 14, 2015.(SD-Agencies)
