MAROON 5 is taking the MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time.

    The pop-rock band, led by “The Voice” coach and newlywed Adam Levine, will make its VMA performance debut at this year’s awards ceremony Aug. 24, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

    The group, whose forthcoming album “V” hits stores Sept. 2, will perform its current single “Maps” from a special outdoor stage.

    Maroon 5 joins previously announced performers Usher, Ariana Grande and Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds of Summer. More performers will be announced at a later date, along with presenters.

    “We are so excited about our upcoming new album and to be part of the great VMA lineup this year. It is our first time doing the show and we are thrilled to be on it performing our new single,” said Levine in a statement.

    Maroon 5 won a Moonman in 2004 for best new artist, though the group has been nominated three other times, most recently in 2012 for best pop video (“Payphone”).

    Levine hasn’t been shy about his criticisms over MTV and the VMAs. In August 2011, Levine voiced his frustrations on Twitter over the network’s growing slate of original scripted and unscripted programing. “The VMA’s. One day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I’m drawing a line in the sand,” Levine tweeted at the time.(SD-Agencies)
