Volunteers sought to raise corals in Dapeng
     2014-August-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

VOLUNTEERS who can dive are being sought as part of an annual coral protection activity, Shenzhen Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

Donors are also sought to fund the purchase of 1,500 corals.

Initiated in 2012, the activity “Dive for Love” is organized by the economic service bureau of Dapeng New Area and Shenzhen Mofang, an organization that promotes individual travel and outdoor activities.

Individuals, families and enterprises who want to contribute to the purchasing and volunteer programs can follow “dive4love”on Wechat and send their information to the account or fill out a registration form at last.sznews.com/dapeng/index.html.

People who want to be diving volunteers must have a diving certificate of LW level or above. Media professionals, architects, engineers, proficient translators of Chinese to English, skilled boat operators and those who are knowledgeable about marine biology are welcome to be volunteers.

There are 1,500 artificial coral seedlings and reefs available this year. Every five seedlings costs 1,000 yuan (US$163) and every coral reef costs 50,000 yuan.

A forum will be held at Shenzhen Book City in Futian District Nov. 14. Diving volunteers, marine experts, entrepreneurs and local residents in Dapeng New Area will discuss how to better protect corals at the forum.

“Dive for Love” has had over 200 volunteers, of whom 50 are core members. Among them are divers from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chinese divers from Thailand.
