Meaning:
“行星” means “planet,” and “饭” is the transliteration of the English word “fan.” This term was coined by Chinese netizens to refer to the fans of EXO, a South Korean-Chinese K-pop boy band produced by S.M. Entertainment. Formed in 2011 in Seoul, South Korea, EXO comprises 12 members separated into two subgroups, EXO-K and EXO-M, performing music in Korean and Mandarin, respectively. Their name was taken from the word “exoplanet,” a metaphor that they are stars from the unknown future. Therefore, their fans call themselves “行星饭.”
