FUTIAN District plans to establish a standard for bilingual public signs to improve its English-language environment.
The numbers, patterns, sizes and content of bilingual public signs will be standardized. The district’s urban management administration will cooperate with subdistrict offices on the project.
The district will cooperate with the city’s transportation commission to establish a team to conduct regular communication on the process of bilingual public sign creation.
Incorrect, unclear or useless public signs in the district will be demolished before the end of next month.
Futian has been making active efforts to become an internationally-friendly urban district. It has established Shenzhen’s first expat volunteer team and organized expats to tour landmarks in the district.
The permanent resident expat population in Futian was 2,910 last year and the number of known expats staying temporarily was 4,122, according to the district’s foreign affairs office.
Expats living in the district are from countries that include South Korea, the United States, Japan, Indonesia and Canada.
