Man who saved woman from suicide attempt shuns media
     2014-August-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE man who saved a woman during her attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the sea at Shenzhen Bay on Saturday is a senior executive of a State-owned enterprise (SOE), the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

The paper had been trying to find the man since the incident happened to let people know more about the Good Samaritan.

The unidentified man left immediately after swimming with the woman to shore.

A friend of the man told the paper that his friend is not willing to give an interview.

The woman, a 24-year-old Hunan native, jumped into the sea from a bridge. Her suspected motive was her boyfriend breaking up with her.

The man jumped into the sea and swam to her after hearing her cries for help.

The woman has returned to her hometown, the paper said.

A photographer, Li Fei, took several pictures of the woman in the sea, triggering online doubts about whether it was a stunt put on by him.

Li was working out with his camera at the Shenzhen Bay Park when the incident happened, the paper said.

Li and another two passers-by stepped into the sea to assist in bringing the woman to shore. Li took pictures of the whole rescue process.

A deputy manager of Bank of China Shenzhen Branch, Fang Kan, was also one of the three assistants.

“To be honest, it takes courage to save a woman alone in the sea,” said Fang.

Aside from the paper, the park administration is also searching for the brave man to thank him. (Martin Li, Chen Yue)
