Elizabeth Hurley shocks as Queen Helena in ‘The Royals’
     2014-August-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE trailer for Elizabeth Hurley’s upcoming drama “The Royals” has been unveiled, and by all accounts, it looks to be a racy, scandal-plagued romp.

With the trailer opening on grand gates, resembling those of London’s iconic Buckingham Palace, the clip quickly plummets into scenes of scantily clad youngsters partying, drinking and bed-hopping.

In a voice-over, Hurley — who plays the fictional Queen Helena in the show — says: “Let me recap my week for you,” before listing her high-profile family’s issues.

She goes on: “My daughter’s vagina was on the cover of four tabloids, my son is dating an employee and my husband has the weight of the world on his shoulders. In case you’ve forgotten, we’re not a normal family,” says Hurley in a regal tone.

The trailer continues, showing the family in various official settings, interspersed with shots of wild partying, drinking and illicit trysts.

“This is an extreme, sexy adventure into royalty,” said Hurley during an appearance on “The Today Show” last week.

The hour-long drama offers a fictional take on a British royal family and what may go on behind the closed doors of their palace.

“It’s quite out there,” said the 49-year-old actress, whose character has been described as a “couture-clad vixen dripping in diamonds.” “For me this is like sex, drugs and rock at Windsor Castle,” she added.

But the actress is quick to say her character differs from the real-life Queen Elizabeth II. “There’s little resemblance to Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of England,” said Hurley. “But you never know. The beauty of this show is that we go behind closed doors.”

The show, which is set to debut in 2015, starts after the Queen’s first-born son, the Prince of Wales, has died, leaving his wayward brother, Prince Liam, as heir apparent to the throne. But drama ensues when he starts dating an American woman and the disapproving Queen finds out about their late-night trysts.(SD-Agencies)
