Homebody
     2014-September-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    宅男宅女

    Home是“家”, body是表示“人”的后缀。Homebody是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: What are your plans for the holiday?

B: I want to travel to Africa, but I have to convince my husband to go with me.

A: Does he have other plans?

B: Not really. He’s a homebody. I always have to persuade him for a long time before he agrees to travel with me.

Note: Combining “home” and “body” (from “somebody”), this word refers to a person who seldom goes anywhere and prefers pleasures and activities that center around the home. A similar word can be “stay-at-home.” However, the latter can also refer to a stay-at-home dad, a male parent who is the main caregiver of the children and the home. A shut-in is different, referring to a person confined indoors by disease or disability, not one who enjoys staying at home.
