Toronto mayor diagnosed with rare cancer
     2014-September-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TORONTO Mayor Rob Ford has a very rare and aggressive type of cancerous tumor in his abdomen, his doctor said Wednesday, and the controversial leader will start chemotherapy treatment within days.

Ford, who made international headlines with his admission that he smoked crack cocaine while in office, was hospitalized last week after suffering unbearable abdominal pains. He dropped his re-election bid in the city’s mayoral race last week.

Zane Cohen, a colorectal surgeon of Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital, said malignant liposarcoma makes up just 1 percent of all cancers. However, he was also optimistic about Ford’s treatment prospects.

In May and June, the mayor underwent rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. He emerged noticeably thinner though still obese. (SD-Agencies)
